Ask about educational background and work experience.
Ask what licenses they have to sell certain financial products, such as life insurance or securities.
Ask what services your Retirement Pro provides.
Ask about your Retirement Pro’s basic approach to financial planning.
Ask their areas of specialization.
Find out what types of clients your Retirement Pro serves, and any minimum net worth or income requirements they may have.
Ask about their professional affiliations, including membership in the Financial Planning Association.
Ask how your Retirement Pro would prepare a plan for you.
Ask how your Retirement Pro would address any particular needs that you may have.
Find out how your Retirement Pro would implement the recommendations he or she has for your plan.
Find out if your Retirement Pro has any business relationships that might present a conflict of interest.
Finally, find out how your Retirement Pro will be compensated for their services.
A Face-to-Face interview should give you a personal sense about your Retirement Pro. But as you are interviewing them ask yourself, does the person seem forthright in their answers? Do you have a sense of trust and rapport? Is the person focused on your needs, not selling products?
